Downloadable WordPress Codex 3.3.1

By: on Jan 23, 2012 | 6 Comments

As WordPress developers ourselves, we routinely refer back to the online WordPress Codex when a question arises about a certain function.  Just as with most developers some of our WordPress development takes place offline using something like WAMP.

The problem then becomes you don’t have access to all of your online tools such as the WordPress Codex.  After seeing numerous requests online for a downloadable version of the WordPress Codex we went and scraped the Codex ourselves and have it stored for our offline use.  At this time and keeping with the open source concept already established by WordPress, we would like to share our downloadable WordPress Codex with the public.

Our offline version of the Codex is approximately 177MB uncompressed and 103MB compressed.  A great deal has been left in to the offline version including their CSS and some extras.  This was intended so browsing the WordPress Codex would be similar to using that of the online version.  The only limitation is you won’t be able to use the search function in the header.

You can download the offline file below with no restrictions.  We only ask if you redistribute it you leave some credit to use for compiling it and original content credit to WordPress.org.

If you’re a WordPress developer and are stuck with a particular issue we would love to hear from you.  It is our hope with a mutual exchange of information we can all better ourselves.

If you’re looking for WordPress hosting, we offer very low hosting rates at BlueLayerHost which start at $3.95/mo and offer a free installation of WordPress as well.  If you are in the mood for a discount, use “BLH-Codex” without quotes and you’ll receive 25% off the lifetime of your hosting with us.
