NextGEN gallery is a fabulous addition to your WordPress site and with additional plugins can be used for so much more than just a gallery.

One of the issues we ran in to while doing work for a client was getting a lightbox overlay to work properly. The common solutions we came across were to install two additional plugins. One was the lightbox 2 plugin and the other was the shutter plugin for WordPress. Neither of these worked in our case. We were working on a fresh WordPress v. 2.9.2.

What did work for us was using the jQuery Lightbox plugin.  After installing this plugin and removing the two previous ones, all of our JavaScript errors were gone and we had a nice lightbox overlay appearing on images.

Hope it brings some help to those that maybe trying to accomplish the same thing.

As we approach nearly 1000 downloads on our Prosper202 fix, we’ve seen a few comments where people needed a little additional help on how and when to overwrite the functions.php file.

To make life easier, we’ve included our fix in this package. All you have to do now is:

1. Download it
2. Extract it
3. Upload it to your host (or we can host it for you, just contact us for more info)
4. Install it as per the instructions on the official Prosper202 site
5. Enjoy!

With over 7,200 plugins freely available for WordPress there is quite a bit out there which can help enhance and improve your website. It is easy to simply add multiple plugins and accumulate a large amount over time. Adding multiple plugins should be done with some caution as I’m sure many users have discovered why. Plugins have and will conflict with other plugins, especially those which rely on the use of jQuery, MooTools etc. WordPress is already a lightweight, lean, mean blogging machine. No sense overdoing it with plugins and slowing it down.

We use a total of 11 plugins on this site and we could probably do away with 1-2 of them.
